Shhh, the "thinkers" are among us...
Yes, another day...another damned opinion.
Ever wonder what happened to those that were deemed, "Less likely to?"
I was one of those "...less likely to" people and I've got to tell you -more and more these days- as I shop in the malls and deal with relative maroons everywhere I go, it seems to be that even though I was once perceived as, "...never achieving a professional level beyond that of apathetic living" (if that were a professional level to be achieved) or was that "...a pathetic living?"
Anyway, it seems to be, now more than ever, entire generations of over prescribed human beings [of all ages] that have tripped into a culture bathing in the shallow end of the think tank we affectionately refer to as the gene pool are running the world; in positions of power.
I mean, it's one thing to have been born to complete parental maroons, when this happens we amaze and gasp at your accomplishments...like tying your shoes and brushing your teeth all by yourself before the age of ten.
But when you're born to scholars and/or uber-achievers, well...lets just say nary an eyebrow lifts till you write your first sonata or formulate your first real proof or map the entire genome of your fathers prized $25,000 multi-colored Coi on your [Yale admitted] brothers ancient HP hand-me-down computer...all this by the ripe old age of 14. Boy, those were the days.
For us, "...less likely to's" it's become our world. Finally, we control the economies of the world, we're just to stupid to know it. Atlas need not shrug today for we wouldn't even notice.
Mike Judge delivered a fantastic commentary on today's culture of the weak minded in his latest feature, Idiocracy. If you haven't seen it, find a store and rent the DVD or go to isohunt and download an illegal copy...hey you're the one breaking the law, not me.
I guess my point is that I never really felt like the smart person in the room until a couple of years ago when people stopped spelling things correctly and started thinking like school children during a fire drill -looking toward anyone of authority so as to not get caught tripping the next guy out of the room.
The Bush administration is not to be blamed for this dumbing down nor are the schools or the multi-national corporate conglomerates we all work for...We can only blame one segment of our increasingly stupid society, the U.S.P.S.
Yes, the Post Office.
Because any of the others we could blame would be reasonable choices and that just ain't right.
You see...the postman delivers the bills and therefore must be the one to blame. You know, kill the messenger and his attorney, first. The rest will fall into place.
Sure, Atlas could shrug and we could have the "thinkers" stop being the brains of our today, but what would the stupid know of it? Not a damned thing. As far as being "less likely to" I think that label is better tagged onto today's growing segment of entertainment seeking, blog reading, consumerist believing, opinion having, prescription popping parents expecting greatness from their shoelace tying children.
Expectations are the simple mistakes of the uniformed that are passed down from one maroon to the next. To be replicated and repeated infinitely, without pause.
It is expected of you to behave.
It is expected of you to achieve.
It is expected of you to fail.
It is expected of you to become.
It is expected that the company will exceed my expectations.
It is expected that you will be less likely to care about your fellow beings as tomorrow unfolds.
Nah, I'll continue to think less today so others can feel more tomorrow.
Will it work?
Probably not, but who cares...the "thinkers" are among us and they think they rule the world and the maroons [us] just want more love, food, beer and wine so they can continue to entertain themselves [in moderation, of course] during this thing called time.
Here is where I'm expected to write something profound to tie it all together, but much like life, I'll leave it open ended...with no more expectations from those less likely to.
